It’s been a few years since Habitat For Humanity NEMI has gone out and done the “Nail Sale” fundraiser. It was decided to give it a go again this year and we are pleased to announce that it was worth the time of our staff and volunteers. The sale was held on October 10th and 11th in Alpena. There were six locations around town with many volunteers taking shifts. We would like to thank Tom Brindley for his efforts to secure the locations, and organize the volunteers who did the collections. This year we raised $1584.32 which will be used locally to keep our mission moving forward.
Millard and Linda Fuller started Habitat for Humanity in 1976 in Americus, Georgia. The first house was constructed that same year in San Antonio, Texas, the location of Habitat’s first affiliate. As the fifth anniversary of Habitat approached there was a growth explosion with 14 U.S. and 7 international affiliates. A total of 342 houses had been built. To date, Habitat for Humanity has dedicated over 500,000 homes.
HFH established an affiliate in Alpena in 1989. Since then, 75 families have received new-construction homes or extensively rehabbed existing homes in Alpena and Alcona counties. Here at Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan, we truly live by and believe in our affiliates’ vision of A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
